My Side-Bangs Disaster!!

1

I am a high school student who has had a very drab hairstyle since I was twelve. Since the new year has arrived, I decided to get my hair cut into something very different and very pretty-- such as side-swept bangs. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Ashley Tisdale, but she is just one of the many stars on Disney's famous "High School Musical". She currently has beautiful side-swept bangs, and I wanted MINE to look like hers...or at least, somewhat like hers.
I brought in a picture of Shanae Grimes, an actress on a Canadian teen show, "Degrassi-The Next Generation". She, too, obtains side-swept (swoop) bangs.
I showed the picture to a hairstylist, and she cut away. But, I guess that old saying "The hairstylist always cuts the client's hair the way SHE or HE invisions it" was true: my side bangs are NOT side bangs!!!! If anything, they're "fide bangs" (as in, fake side bangs).
I am absolutely devastated. My parents refuse to take me somewhere else to get it fixed.
I HATE my hair, and I'm afraid that I'm never going to enjoy any haircut I get from now on: every hairstylist I've EVER been to has done the complete OPPOSITE of what I intended to have done to my hair.
Please, what do I do?

Thanks,
Devastated Darby

oh for the love of pete, relax. it's hair. it will grow out. all you can really do is wait. and play with it in the meantime and find a cute way to style it.

next time you get your hair cut, go somewhere else. pay attention to what the hairstylist is doing and if you see that they are doing it wrong, speak up. this can be tough to do, but ask yourself if it's better to annoy the hairstylist or live with a haircut you hate. if you see the finished product and hate it, you have to say something before you get up from the chair and they can fix it. if they try to talk you out of hating it, just stick to your guns and be polite but firm "this really isn't what i envisioned- can we please make it more like this??"

BUT it might also be a good idea to work with the hairstylist and ask "what do you think will look good?" because sometimes, a hairstyle can look great on someone else (especially someone who has their hair professionally done every day) but not so great on you- it depends on your hair type and a lot of other things.

so, take a deep breath, remind yourself it is just hair, that at least you have hair and have not lost it all to chemo or something, and try to chill until your next haircut.

1) Chill
2) Try styling products. The problem might be with the way you're working with your hair rather than the haircut.
3) Go somewhere else next time.
4) Your parents are right. If you want it fixed you need to shell out the money and transport yourself to the place.
5) Getting your hair cut to follow a certain celeb might not work with your face. I generally let the stylist do what they feel will look good on me.
6) Look back on this in 10 years and laugh.
