I need help!!!!!!!! a cop recently gave my mom a ticket for something that i think is soo stupid. My niece opened the door one morning and my chiguagua doggie ran outside.By the time she told my mom we didnt know where the dog went. My mom and my niece walked down the block looking for her, when they spotted her she ran across the street and a cop car was coming pretty fast and did not make a complete stop at the stop sign. My mom and my niece yelled out to the cop STOP!!! cuz he was about to run over my dog. He got out of the car soo mad and started asking my mom soo many questions. He asked my mom for her drivers licence and gave her a ticket. Just because the dog didnt have a dog tag on her collar and he mentioned something about a chip that had to be inserted in the dog, and because the dog was loose.ITS A FREAKING CHIGUAGUA WHAT HARM CAN IT DO.. i understand if the cop would given her a warning but no he gave her a ticket and was being rude to her, the cop also told her this kinds of tickets are very expensive so she better be ready for it.. WHAT CAN WE DO? AND I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF WE FIGHT IT DO WE HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN.. |

oceankitten:dude, your mom got a ticket because she was in violation of the law. period. a police officer isn't required to give you a warning when you break the law, whether it was accidental or not, or the officer was having a crappy day or not. leash laws, microchips, etc are just part of being a responsible pet owner. my cats have never left the house, yet they're chipped, fixed and licensed. stuff happens. if you fight the ticket, there's a good chance the fine could be reduced, but no guarantee. how much is your time worth? because you could spend all day there.

sweetone:Rule #1- Never yell at at a cop! Or else you will get a ticket. Cops do not like to be yelled at. They like to take control and give you orders. It would have been better to motion the cop to stop with your hand. That way he would not feel yelled at.

All jurisdictions have leash laws, and if your dog was loose, you'll have to pay the ticket. And even little dogs can cause problems. If a person sees one dash across the road, they may veer suddenly and hit another car head-on, or go off the road and hit a pedestrian. As for the microchip, that sounds pretty ridiculous. Those are expensive and most pet owners can't afford them. Your dog should have a collar and tag, but if it doesn't, it would mostly likely mean if it was found running loose, it would go to the pound and be hard to identify. I don't think it's a punishable offense. Tags are more to protect the pet and owner. But the cop may have been having a hard day. You might call the city and explain your circumstances and apologize for not taking the proper precautions, but tell them you don't feel the cop needed to be quite so rude.
