What is it with hair stylists asking me what I do for a living, then asking if it is a salaried position? Do they ask all clients this? Or do they think I am not good enough to have a salaried position? What is with the question?

Whoa! I think you're being way too sensitive. Hair stylists are like bar tenders. They ask questions. They chat you up. I think you have self-esteem issues if you internalize a simple question like that. Geez, back that bus up.
